Fourth Grade Recorders Are Here!

FINALLY!

The Fourth Graders have been waiting patiently to receive their recorders and to start playing. Tomorrow,  November 27th, we will begin. If you have a recorder at home already, please put it in your backpack so that you will have it with you in school on your Music day.

It's not okay to call home if you forget your recorder. Don't worry, though...I have "borrowers" in the Music Room that you can use if you happen to forget yours.

Hope everyone is ready for a fast and musical four weeks ahead!!

...Yes, we are! We have started learning a few new Folk Dances for our annual Harvest Hoedown, which is coming up very quickly! The Third and Fourth graders have been working on "Alabama Gal" and the First and Second Graders are learning "Sneaky Snake" and "Irish Stew" (which is danced to the tune "Rakes of Mallow." Everyone is looking pretty polished after only one week of practicing.

We'll be dancing and singing on October 31st with all of the other specialist teachers in the gymnasium. A big yee-haw goes out to Mrs. Smith for making it all possible. Pictures to come!!

Happy Fall, Y'all!

The October musical activities have begun! We are working hard on songs for our October Half School Meetings. Everyone will be singing "You're A Grand Old Flag" as our Patriotic song at the beginning of each assembly. The 1st and 2nd graders will then be singing "Golden Rule" and the 3rd and 4th graders will be singing "Reach Out" to connect with their classroom learning this month.

We have already been singing some of our favorite fall songs, and coming up next week...we'll be learning a brand new folk dance! Grades 1 and 2 will be learning a circle dance and grades 3 and 4 will be learning "Alabama Gal!" We'll be dancing these at our school wide Harvest Hoedown on October 31st.

There are just a few more 4th grade recorder slips to be collected and then we can order the recorders! If you haven't brought your slip to the music room, please try to do so by the end of this week, so we can order the recorders SOON!

4th Grade Chorus Concerts are coming up soon! We are getting excited! Please check the "Fourth Grade Chorus Concert Dates" link to see when your student's concert will be. (You can find it in the "Pages" section, to the right of this post.)

Have a great long weekend!

Copy of my Welcome Back Letter

This letter was sent home on September 10, 2012

Dear Floral Street School Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to you today to introduce myself. My name is Tracy DeBlois, and I am one of the two music teachers at Floral Street School this year. Mrs. Demarky-Anderson is the other music teacher. We are so excited to be team-teaching again on Mondays and Thursdays this year!

So far, we are having a musical year. The students in all grades have participated in their first “Half School Meeting.” On Friday the 31st, the 1st and 2nd graders had their meeting and on Friday the 7th, the 3rd and 4th graders participated in theirs . Both went very well. They sounded fantastic singing the “Birthday Song” and  “This Land is Your Land” together as a large group. Ask them to sing those songs for you, and to share what they learned at HSM, if they havent shared them with you already!

Fourth graders will be beginning their recorder program shortly.  A letter will be coming home on September 24th, so be on the look out! Please send back the bottom of the recorder form as soon as possible so that we can be sure to have recorders for all that need them.

It is a very busy year for the fourth graders here in the Music Department. Our fall concert schedule is below, so you can reserve the dates!

I am very happy to be here at Floral Street School again this year. If you have any questions or
concerns, please feel free to email me at tdeblois@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us or to call and leave a
voice mail at 841-8300 (X4932). You can also reach me on my Faculty Page, which is my web site on the Floral Street School home page.

Thank you for your time and have a wonderful fall!

Musically yours,

Mrs. Tracy DeBlois

Wow! The first full week was a blast!

Mr. Treble Clef is BACK! This week, everyone enjoyed Chapter One and heard about Mac and Christina's adventures when they met Mr. Treble Clef in Musictown! Ask your student to tell you the things that they learned and then put into the Pot of Music Knowledge in music class.

The first School Meetings went well and we are very much looking forward to the next ones in October. The First and Second Graders will be singing the song "Golden Rule" and the Third and Fourth Graders will be singing a song called "Reach Out"- both are wonderful songs by Teresa Jennings of Plank Road Publishing's Music K-8 Magazine fame. These songs remind us to use our FACTS and CARES, both inside our school and out.

Keep your eyes peeled for more posts - recorder letters will be coming soon...

Hello from Room 215!

As we begin the 2012-2013 school year, excitement is in the air! Mrs. Demarky Anderson and I are so thrilled to meet all of our new friends here at Floral and, of course, to see all of our old friends...

We have many fun music learning activities planned for the year ahead, including the story of Mr. Treble Clef!  That's right - he's back!

We are looking forward to trying our hand at blogging and it is so neat to be able to communicate with you all in yet another new way. Hopefully we will reach parents and students alike. If you follow our blog, we will keep you posted with all of the wonderful things that are happening in the Music Room this year.

Have a musical year!

Musically Yours...

-Mrs. DeBlois and Mrs. Demarky Anderson
